Foteini Valeonti, 26, is doing a PhD at the UCL on the broader field of Augmented Reality for Cultural Heritage, whilst her background is a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Piraeus. After her graduation, Foteini attended on scholarship the MFA Interactive Digital Media course at Ravensbourne College (City University) in London and earned it with A+. Her MFA thesis is an augmented reality iPad game she developed in collaboration with Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London called “Shakespeare’s Hunt”. Foteini has been invited to talk about her research and work at various conferences.
Involved in entrepreneurial activity Foteini with the support of UCL turned her PhD project USEUM, “The World’s Museum of Art”, into a start-up company. USEUM was awarded the 1st prize in Athens Startup Weekend 2012 competition and a few months later it raised £110,000 during its seed-funding round that valued the company at £1M. USEUM, of which Foteini is the Founder and Managing Director, features 7,500+ artworks by 600+ artists from 80 countries world-wide.
